Wed. January 8 - Mt. Hood Meadows Ski Bus program begins for eight weeks. Cost of 8 week program package is $318. Bus pick-up at 7:30AM at Maryhill Park outside Goldendale, 8AM at Stone's Ski & Sports in The Dalles, and 8:25 at Hood River Marina parking lot. Contact Linda Quackenbush at 298-3101.

Fri., Jan. 10, 5:30 pm. - Congregational Church 111 E.5th St., The Dalles. General meeting for the Columbia River Fellowship for Peace. This meeting is open to all. Folks are welcome to bring something to eat. Some people may send out for pizza. Contact: (541) 386-1650, www.columbiariverpeace.org

Jan. 14-17 - Deadline for entries for Wasco County students in grades K-5 to participate in annual Wasco County Elementary Art Exhibit. Call the Art Center at 296-4759. Entry forms and rules are available at the The Dalles Art Center, and the Art Box.

Thurs. Jan 16 - Oregon Hunter Education class. All hunters 18 and under must have a hunter education card to hunt in Oregon. To register call Wasco County Park and Recreation at 296-9533.

Sat., Jan. 18 - Statewide Rally and March Against Iraq War in Portland. There will be a rally and march against War with Iraq Saturday, January 18, in downtown Portland at the South Park Blocks (SW Salmon & 9th). The event starts at 12:30 PM with music, literature tables, and community networking followed by a rally at 1:00 PM and a march at 1:30 PM. This event celebrates Dr. Martin Luther King's birthday and the theme of the march and rally is "Take Action for Peace and Justice - Stop the War at Home and Abroad!" There are now over100 organizations involved in sponsoring or endorsing the

Thurs. Jan 23 - The Dalles Area Habitat for Humanity 10th annual Sampler Dinner. St. Peter's Parish Hall, 6PM. Local restaurants and other businesses prepare and donate food, music and prizes.

Fri. Jan 24, 6-8PM - St. Mary's Academy Family Night. No admission. Food and beverages available and more than 100 silent auction items available for bidding. Entire community welcome.

Sun. Jan 26, 4PM. - Nathaniel Stone will read from his book "On the Water: Discovering America in a Row Boat. Sponsored by Waucoma Bookstore. Reading will be held at CAST Performing Arts Center, 105 Fourth St., Hood River. Free event.

Thurs. Jan. 30 - Tree Sale- Wasco County Soil and Water Conservation District's annual tree sale. Obtain list from SWCD website at http://www.wasco.oacd.org or by calling Tammy at 296-6178 ext. 3. Deadline for ordering is Jan. 30, 2003. Reasonably priced bare-root trees and shrugs, nursery stock selected for their suitability for the arid and windy conditions of the gorge and surrounding areas. Plants are typically ready for pickup by the second week of March.

United We Walk - Walk days are Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8-10AM. There will be freebies and prizes at the site of each walk.
" First full week of each month: Seufert Park, from E. Second or I-84 north on Hwy 197, before the ridge, right of Bret Clodfelter Way, one mile.
" Second week of each month: walk from Riverfront Park, from East Second or from I-84, take the Marina-Park road north to the river, park in the park.
" Third week of each month: Port Trail section from West Sixth turn north on Webber, which becomes River Road, one mile out, right on Klindt Drive, park at Port of The Dalles Building.
" Fourth week of each month: Discovery Center Trail section, take West Sixth (Hwy 30 West) about two miles out, watch for signs.
" On a single Thursday as the first of the month or a single Tuesday on the last of a fifth week, walk at Sorosis Park.
